The North Carolina Blueberry Festival holds a Barbecue Cook off each year. This event is an annual blueberry festival tradition, and has been sanctioned by the North Carolina Pork Council and its Whole Hog Barbecue Series! This year’s event will proudly celebrate its 15th Annual North Carolina Blueberry Festival! The pigs will be cooked by many local area contestants along with champion cookers from throughout North Carolina where they will compete to be named the 15th Annual North Carolina Blueberry Festival Barbecue Champs! The contestants are judged on the taste of their barbecue and their sauce served with it. The pigs may be cooked with wood, charcoal, or gas. Cooking begins on the Friday before the festival, June 15th, 2018, and Judging will begin at 5:00 pm.  After judging the array of flavors, the meat is then chopped and served at the festival as BBQ sandwiches or BBQ by the pound.

You will find this to be the most popular meal at the festival!!

Festival proceeds are utilized in providing scholarships to deserving seniors in the blueberry producing counties; Bladen, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender, and Sampson. The festival is held each third Saturday in June on the Courthouse Square in Historic Downtown Burgaw, NC.
